digital work in progress.

work in progress

this is one of my more finalised images.

some scans and musings

Right now I am trying to tell a ghost story through images of the brain, I'm hoping this is making this project a little more grounded, and yes, a little less silly. I think that through studying the physical and psychological effect of fear, I can come to a better understanding to why I, despite not believing in ghosts, find this sort of thing so compelling, and why I still need to get into bed as quickly as possible at night so that something doesn't grab my ankles.

here are some beautiful images of the brain that I'm working from.

Project Development

In my research into paranormal happenings I have came across some images which show the activity of the brain when faced with fear, and also during the REM stage of sleep, and these scans include those of people experiencing nightmares. This research has really interested me, as many of the images are beautiful in their own right. With this in mind, I am now choosing to study and represent the idea that "this is what your nightmares look like". I am choosing the brain in states of fear and REM so that I can make my project into a study of the physicality of fear.

enjoy this, it has classical music!

Personal Experiences

As I'm collating a book of people's personal accounts of ghosts and nightmares, I've been researching by interviewing and collecting their stories in handwritten, recorded and e-mail formats. I've already came across quite a few really descriptive and interesting stories but I need more, so, if anyone would like to share their experiences with me either leave a comment below or contact me via email, which can be found in the contact me section, and because I am expecting such a high volume of replies, ahem, I'm hoping to lure you all with the fact you will be part of a very nice project, and your story will inform my ideas.
